Excellent observations!! Every day I wonder what crap has happened over night. There is not one single credible, knowledgeable or responsible member in his cabinet…they just fawn over him which, of course, he expects and demands!! I am 81 years old and I have NEVER seen a mess like this in our White House and Capitol!!

Okay, Matt, let's "cast appeasement and caution to the wind." How do we do this as a "well oiled machine" with all of us working as part of a team that knows what it's mission is and what the steps are for accomplishing it? We need the leader/s. We need the plan. We need the reinforcements to make sure its accomplished. You led 640 people in your last job. Lead us. We are showing up at townhalls but how can we put all our angst to work for us in a synchronized effort to succeed at the polls in 2026--if we can trust a free election then. Don't just tell us what needs to be done lead us. We "everyday Americans" are standing up but we need leaders. You named several in an earlier communication. Can you get them together and together put together a leadership team that has a plan we can give our best to?

Everyday Americans are doing this. If you're looking for some good reporting on this from the rural midwest Jess Piper from MO is the best at the View from Rural Missouri. https://jesspiper.substack.com/. The "telling" part of my post is directed at national leadership. That's where the appeasement is happening and the over-abundance of caution. It's big media and big higher ed and big law firms and big Democratic leaders/funders. For those of us who don't have a big in front of our names and orgs, we're already engaged and ready to do more. The phone calls are important. Showing up at events organized by unions, groups like Iowa Faith and Climate Network (I'll be in Grinnell on Saturday for Called to Climate Action, if not sold out they are close), Progress Iowa, local Indivisible groups, and groups at churches like Plymouth in Des Moines. All of these make a difference and are leading. But those orgs, and businesses, and party leadership with a "big" in front of their identities need to engage with those of us on the front line. That's my message. The leadership is already there locally. But we've got to supercharge that with investments and resources from those with the money and power. I'm not saying we have no voice or leadership without that investment, but I'm calling out that the investments and resources are parked on the sidelines right now.

Wish I had more time to respond, Matt, but you are spot on! This is an earthquake moment for our national security. I am still struggling with if 1) it was intentional, 2) it was a truly ignorant breach, 3) or something more sinister in between. Just hard to wrap my arms around it right now. Thanks for these thoughts, we all need to stand up, speak out and show up!

Thank you. It takes an unbelievably long time for ordinary people of both parties to catch on to what Trump and some of his followers are trying to do. I am very encouraged to see many different kinds of people are not afraid to rise up. I think many do not because all the distractions have left them standing with mouths open and expecting someone else to stop it as they have done in the past. I am especially disappointed in the way Iowans have slipped backwards when once they were a haven for those who came to Iowa after the Vietnam War.

Didn’t read the whole article because I saw where it was headed. But, the fact is that breaches of security regarding telephones, etc. have happened before. One instance happened the Clinton administration when a reporter was accidentally included on a group call. Why, Clinton should have been Impeached, or at least Sandy Berger maybe.

This is a spectacular security breach. There is no comparison. And then the literally crazy response on the tarmac by Sec of Def Hegseth on his way to Hawaii. I stand by every word I wrote if you care to finish reading. If "but what about Hillary's emails?" is your comparison, I don't expect you to do that much work or allow your interpretation to be challenged. I do however, appreciate you checking in and offering your opinion.

The reference to Clinton was to Bill Clinton’s administration when a reporter, Jon Fournier I think, was included on a similar call with Sandy Berger and others. You see, I can conduct research. Of course, Hillary’s mishandling of her emails is a good comparison, except who knows what harm she did other than get a few people killed. BTW, I don’t mind my interpretation being questioned.
